A product design case study on AI risk intelligence for UN agencies in Somalia.
UN risk operators work with information spread across many sources. It is hard to spot emerging threats, connect risks, and decide in time. Different agencies also have different priorities.
RiskIQ is an AI platform that brings that information together so operators can investigate risks and make decisions from a shared picture.
I worked with risk professionals across UN agencies, made sense of the competing priorities, and helped shape a base product that could work for all of them. That meant workshops, prototypes, lots of iteration, and close collaboration with developers.
This interface lets users see the latest briefing, key risk counts, trends, and live hotspots so they know where to look next.

Briefing, metrics, trends, and live hotspots.

New signals ranked by severity, trend, and sources.
This interface lets users ask about a risk, region, or trend in plain language and get answers with sources.

Filters for region, category, and time, with suggested prompts.
This interface lets users turn data layers on and off, ask questions about places in Somalia, and see answers drawn on the map.

Layers, place questions, and risk on the ground.
This interface lets users plot risks by likelihood and impact, then open a cell to see the risks inside it.

Internal and collective risks, filtered by region and owner.

Critical cell opens ownership, status, and Ask RiskIQ.
This interface lets users browse the operational risk register, including inherent and residual risk, mitigation status, and owners.

Search, filter, and track mitigation across categories.
Each agency had its own priorities. My job was to find the common core, then workshop, prototype, and iterate until that base felt right for everyone.
Competing priorities are the design problem. The base product is the answer.
Alignment happens in the room; conviction happens when people click through a flow.
Iteration stuck when designers and developers shaped the same surface together.
